Why Rat Cleanup Matters
Removing the rats is only half the job. What they leave behind — droppings, urine, nesting materials, and carcasses — creates ongoing health risks. Rat droppings carry salmonella and hantavirus. Urine-soaked insulation harbors leptospirosis bacteria. Decomposing nesting material attracts secondary pests like beetles, mites, and flies.
In Miami's heat and humidity, these contaminants break down quickly, releasing odors and airborne particles that can enter your living space through ceiling penetrations, recessed lights, and HVAC returns. If your attic smells bad, your indoor air quality is compromised.

Our Cleanup Process
Step 1: Assessment
We inspect the attic (or affected area) to determine the extent of contamination. We check insulation saturation, droppings density, nesting locations, and any structural damage from gnawing.
Step 2: Insulation Removal
Contaminated insulation gets removed entirely using industrial vacuum equipment. We bag and dispose of it according to Florida waste regulations. Partial removal isn't effective — if 30% of the insulation is contaminated, you need to replace 100% for reliable results.
Step 3: Sanitization
After insulation removal, we apply a commercial-grade antimicrobial treatment to all exposed surfaces — rafters, sheathing, top plates, and ductwork. This eliminates bacteria, neutralizes odor, and kills parasites left by the rodents.
Step 4: Re-Insulation
We install new blown-in insulation to manufacturer and building code specifications. Many Miami homes are under-insulated to begin with, so this is often an upgrade in energy efficiency as well.

When Is Cleanup Necessary?
Not every rat problem requires full attic cleanup. If you caught the infestation early — a few weeks of activity, minimal droppings, insulation still intact — spot cleaning may be sufficient. But if rats have been in your attic for months, or you're seeing stains on ceilings, smelling ammonia, or finding large volumes of droppings, full cleanup is the right call.
We always recommend cleanup after attic rat removal for infestations lasting more than 4–6 weeks. The contamination is usually worse than it looks from the attic hatch.
Cleanup costs: Attic sanitization and re-insulation for a standard Miami home runs $1,200–$3,500 depending on attic size and contamination severity. Spot cleaning for minor cases starts at $300–$600.
Frequently Asked Questions
We don't recommend it. Rat droppings can release hantavirus when disturbed. Proper cleanup requires respiratory protection, HEPA filtration, and antimicrobial treatment. It's a health and safety issue.
Most standard policies do not cover rodent damage or cleanup. Some policies with pest endorsements may cover insulation replacement. Check with your carrier.
A full cleanup — insulation removal, sanitization, and re-insulation — typically takes 1–2 days for a standard Miami home.
